West African grant programme

Before you begin

We are delighted that you are interested in applying for a residency at Villa Karo, located in Grand-Popo, Benin. Before you begin, please read the call document for this residency, it contains full details on eligibility, terms, and the application process. Once you have reviewed it, complete all relevant sections of this form. We are unfortunately unable to provide personal support to individual applicants regarding their application.

Villa Karo's In-Kind Residency Grant Programme is open to professional artists, researchers, cultural operators, journalists, and academic professionals from West Africa. Applications are free of charge. Successful applicants receive a residency free of charge, as well as a subsistence allowance of €50 per week. Residencies last between 4 and 6 weeks. To be eligible, you must hold the nationality of a West African country and currently reside in a West African country — these may be two different countries, as long as both are located in West Africa. For this call, West Africa means the ECOWAS member states plus Mauritania. As the programme is highly competitive, we encourage applicants to dedicate time and care to preparing their application. Due to the high volume of applications received, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
